Timothy Szabo has been a principal shareholder in the firm of Szabo, Zelnick, & Erickson, P.C. since its inception over three decades ago. His practice is strictly devoted to family law. He has been involved in hundreds of cases, many involving pension distribution and valuation of marital assets, child custody and support, relocation and divorce. His clients have included General officers of our Armed Forces, Judges of our courts, other professionals and a medley of other private litigants.
In 1998, Tim was appointed a Fellow in the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, an organization in whose ranks are preeminent family lawyers in Virginia. Between the years 1998 to 2002, he was elected to serve and did serve as a member of the Board of Governors, Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar, which is an organization dealing with policy and continued legal education for Virginia’s family lawyers, among other things. In that role, he has presented and spoken locally on some of the most complex domestic issues.
Tim attended William Paterson College and received his B.A. in 1967. After graduating, Tim enlisted in the military and served as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer in Viet Nam during 1968-69.
In 1978, Tim graduated from the George Mason University School of Law. That same year he opened our law firm for business.
Tim is currently a member of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section Board of Governors. He is a frequent lecturer for Virginia lawyers on issues pertaining to domestic relations. As a result of his experience and high level of competence in the field of domestic relations, he has recently been granted a Fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Tim is an avid sailor and a long-term resident of Prince William County.
