Employment Compliance

Now more than ever, employer Form I-9 compliance needs to be a priority for every employer. Even the I-9 form itself has changed several times recently. Keeping up with the I-9 changes is critical to your business in terms of being compliant with the government’s requirements. In addition, recent raids on work sites by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) make it clear that the targets are not only illegal workers, but the employers who employ them.  Did you know that employers found to have hired illegal workers are not only subject to fines, but also jail time? Have you ever conducted a self-audit just to make sure that your company is complying with the requirements of I-9?

The law requires that all employees complete Form I-9 within 3 days of hire.  Employers must certify that they have carefully examined documents to show that their employees are legally authorized to work in this country.  In some states, employers must also submit workers social security numbers to a federal database (known as E-Verify) for confirmation that each employee is authorized to work.

Whether you have an I-9 process in place or you need to get one started, the immigration attorneys at Szabo, Zelnick & Erickson, P.C. will make I-9 compliance simple for you.  Our immigration team will help you develop a process that works for you and your HR staff.
