B-1 Visa
WHO'S ELIGIBLE?
The B-1 non-immigrant visa is typically used by business visitors and travelers who wish to enter the United States for short trips. Canadian travelers do not need a visa to enter the U.S. in B status.
IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS
This visa is used to enter the U.S. for short business trips, which might include: negotiation of contracts, servicing of products, incorporating a company, opening corporate bank accounts, etc.
When considering the B-1 visa there are two important points to remember:
1. The purpose of the trip should be for short, temporary assignments and employment in the U.S. is not authorized
2. In the limited set of circumstances where brief work is permitted (i.e. servicing or implementation of a system sold abroad), the individual must be paid by the foreign employer and must not be paid from a U.S. source.
